How Is It Done?
Laparoscopic surgery is done under general anesthesia and it uses a special fiber optic instrument called laparoscope, the abdomen is distended with Co2 by insufflator after which a cannula is inserted to introduce the laparoscope in abdomen through a small incision, attached to a camera. This allows the surgeon to look inside your abdominal and pelvic cavity which is visualized on a video screen, without disturbing the normal anatomical relations inside the body.
Diseases can also be corrected in the same sitting by inserting additional surgical instruments through other tiny incisions. You can have 3-4 tiny incisions while undergoing laparoscopy. Once the procedure is completed, all instruments are removed, incisions are closed and the area is covered with small bandages.
It is possible to record the whole surgery for future references.
Which surgeries a Gynecologist can perform with laparoscopy?
- Laparoscopic Myomectomy:It is done to remove Fibroid/ leiomyoma of the uterus. Multiple fibroids can be removed from small incisions via use of a morcellator. At Aarya Women’s Hospital “IN BAG MORCELLATION” concept is followed.
- Laparoscopic Hysterectomy:Complete removal of Uterus with cervix and Fallopian tubes.
- Laparoscopic Cystectomy:It is a surgery in which ovarian cysts are removed without spillage in the abdominal cavity. Cyst wall is removed completely. It is done for benign diseases only.
- Laparoscopic Oophorectomy:Removal of ovaries by laparoscopic method is called oophorectomy.
- Laparoscopic Salpingectomy:when only one or both Fallopian tubes are removed laparoscopically it is called as Lap. Salpingectomy. This surgery needs to be performed in cases of Tubal Ectopic Pregnancy, Hydrosalpinx, Pyosalpinx.
- Laparoscopic Resection for Endometriosis:In cases of severe Endometriosis patients , laparoscopic resection of Endometriotic Nodules, Chocolate cysts, endometriosis patch is done to make patient pain free.
- Laparoscopic Radical Hysterectomy:When complete removal of uterus, cervix, b/l Parametrium, ovaries, fallopian tubes, B/ L Pelvic Lymph node dissection in cases of Cervical/ Uterine or Ovarian cancer is done via laparoscopic technique it is called as laparoscopic Radical Hysterectomy.
- Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy :It is done for cases of Uterine Prolapse in which the uterus needs to be preserved. It is a conservative surgery.
- Laparoscopic Pectopexy:It is done for cases of Uterine Prolapse in which the uterus needs to be preserved. It is a conservative surgery.
- Laparoscopic oophoropexy :It is done for Ovarian Torsion Patients or to shield the ovaries away from radiation in Lymphoma patients.
- Laparoscopic Tubal Recanalization:It is a surgery used to repair and rejoin the blocked fallopian tubes.
- Diagnostic Laparoscopy:To diagnose a condition which is not otherwise detectable from ultrasonography like Endometriosis, Infertility patients.
